Another question.

Has there ever been a version of Bizarro that wasn't all "Me am happy." and rather dumb? I've always thought that Bizarro would make a great "evil Superman" kind of guy, but the way he's presented, it seems rather kid-oriented.

What about Superman Prime? I know he's supposedly dead or some such.. but do you think he'll ever make a comeback? (please forgive me if he already has, but I haven't read DC comics in ages really)

i dont think X-Statix was as inconsistent as any of the other books. in the entire run they had three fill-in issues.

and those were done by Paul Pope as the end of the first arc (I can't ever complain for a fill-in by POPE! the man's legend, hardly a last minute solution), Philip Bond (again a famous indie artist keeping with the theme of the book) handling a stand-alone flashback issue and Nick Dragotta who did an actual last minute fill-in for the Vivisector arc, but who later went on to become Allred's regular contributor for the past years in over a dozen books...

the main problem with the art in the new volume was that Allred was now in a time crunch after issue 7-8 and couldn't ink his own work like he always did, and the inker selection, although selected by himself and personal friends (J Bone, Philip Bond) changed his style too much from the norm... nowadays he uses the aforementioned Nick Dragotta to do breakdowns and pencils for him ,and Mike goes in to 'Allred' the art style up with his amazing inks :)

One book that was hurt by inconsistent art - despite its brilliance - was the Milligan/Allred X-force revamp. The title was fantastic, outstanding, so much fun. A key to that was Mike Allred's art. His distinctive style gave so much personality and fit the story like a glove. He only missed a couple issues before it became "X-Statix" but then the art became inconsistent. It hurt the title and I lost interest. Unfortunately that book really needed Allred's art to be as good as it could be, IMO.

Didn't enjoy Superman Beyond very much at all, but that's a lovely bit of anaylsis.

Is this a golden age for Superman? All Star Supes wraps. We have the awesome JSA stuff... then we get Johns and Robinson on the solo books. If McDuffie pulls his JLA together, this goes down as one of the best Superman eras ever.
