Join Brick, Tiger, and Sofe 5 on the golf course. This week they review Ordinary Victories and AEIOU. Also they interview the crew from Heartless Dark.

A weekly review of comics and action figures. This week we review X-men Noir, Rapunzel’s Revenge, and Cerebus. We also hang out at a Jazz game, introduce Trevor Time, and talk with the writers of Rapunzel’s Revenge: Dean and Shannon Hale.

Since when does Spider-Man freak out just because he can’t see? KNEE-JERK REACTION THEATRE attempts to answer that question, and we also give props to a fine version of BATMAN: THE END this week on I’M JUST SAYIN’…

I think in this day and age, we as entertainment consumers in general have to accept that not everything we enjoy is going to last as long as we might like. So as much as some of us might’ve liked to have had Dan Slott on SHE-HULK even to this day, it’s better that we had him for as long as we did get, instead of not at all…

…but while we should be grateful for those comics that grace our shelves for just a little while, that doesn’t mean we can’t give a shout-out for those that deserve to be around just a wee bit longer than they will. For example, what about BOOM STUDIO’s THE MUPPET SHOW COMIC BOOK? This one’s only getting four issues, and if you’re a fan of the old TV show like I was, and have read either of the first two, you’re probably thinking the same thing I am: just FOUR?! Can’t we at least get twelve? SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT got twelve issues, and that story DOESN’T EVEN COUNT!

This week is a decidedly non-human edition of I’M JUST SAYIN’…, as we give our props to turtles, robots, cats, mice and radioactive spider-pigs this week – also, I’m testing out a new sig and I’d like your opinion…c’mon in and get some of this, comic book heads! In the name of Stan, I command it!

The new sci-fi mini-series from Radical Comics is certainly value for money, but does it deliver on quality?

Okay – before we get down to it this week, I wanted to mention a coupla things – so I’m checking my mail, and I get a “pingback” – this is how we know when someone’s commented on something we’ve written, or if we’ve been quoted by another site. And this is just plain unbelievable [...]

Last week we went text-heavy, this week I’m bringin’ pictures, baby – a potpourri of some of my favorite images from the last few weeks of comic book buys, in this week’s I’M JUST SAYIN’…!!!

Knee-Jerk Reactions

A return of an old Nexus mainstay: we’re reading through the entire Previews catalogue so you don’t have to. What’s big in Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image and the massive indyscape for the month of August?

Science fiction has long been a vehicle for social and political commentary, and even in the current climate of cynicism, borne in part out of a widening coverage of global violence and scandal, it must be mighty difficult to come up with an approach that feels completely fresh. It is no real surprise, then, that Jamie Delano’s new Avatar series, Narcopolis, immediately raises comparisons with other genre pieces across a variety of media (1984 and Total Recall springs immediately to mind, but there are a number of other influences that appear throughout.) So, here we are in yet another “all is well in the new worlds order, but unfortunately that means that we have to blow some people up” – hmm, perhaps not so science-fiction any more…

However, if the Narcopolis environment doesn’t come across as purely original, the quality of pacing and the overall delivery is strong enough to act as a more than credible counter-balance.

It’s a pretty rare occurrence for me, especially when I’m talking about comics… but The Many Adventures of Miranda Mercury # 295 has left me pretty much speechless. And I’m fairly sure it has anything to do with the jet lag I’m currently suffering from, following a long work trip to and from Mumbai. I don’t think I’ve ever had a comic book experience quite as intense as that one; not necessarily because it is the best comic book ever, but boy does it have an impact. Now, I know it would help if I started at the beginning, but in all honesty I’m really not all that sure where the beginning is!

Welcome To 2008! I’ve got an idea for a bit of creative writing/role-playing that I’ll present to you folks in a couple of weeks, but I thought I’d take this week to start the new year (or help close the old year if you’re reading this in China) on a positive note. I expressed not [...]

REVIEW: TRUE STORY SWEAR TO GOD vol. 2 #8
Writer/Artist: Tom Beland
Image Comics

My regular comics store Travelling Man (typically) didn’t get TTSTG in for me this week. They rarely get a shipment of it, though I preorder every month and they order it as well, seeing as Tom Beland is very popular in Manchester. Nevertheless, the [...]

BLACK CANARY #3
Company Name: DC Comics
Writer: Tony Bedard
Artists: Paulo Sequeira and Amilton Santos
THE STORY THUS FAR: Full-time superheroine Dinah Lance aka The Black Canary is trying to decide whether or not to accept the proposal of her long-time boyfriend Oliver Queen aka The Green Arrow, while trying to find a place for herself and [...]

One of the highlights of my trip to the Pittsburgh Comicon was meeting the Rich Bernatovech. He is the writer and creator of Sentinels a four volume graphic novel series that is as enjoyable as anything I’ve read from the bigger publishers in recent years. It’s a saga that, while nominally a superhero story, runs [...]
