John Babos triumphantly returns to Comics Nexus with his contribution to Ides of March as well as his thoughts on some recent events.

Beware the ideas of March!
Now the new bossman…old bossman….quasi-new-but-not-so-new-bossman, Mathan, pitched this idea. Do some sort of focus on some negative concepts…big deaths, betrayals, heartbreaking moments, and overall brutality. Sounds like it’s up my alley, right? Especially given the mood I’ve been in this week, and my overall feelings of…..Cry for [...]

“The latest in our ongoing series of ‘Let’s never get hired to do real comics!’ comics.” – Curt Franklin, Chris Haley

This was a very good week for new comics, especially with the return of a few titles I haven’t seen in a long time.
Best Comic of the Week:
Daytripper #4
by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá
My but I love this comic. I would have thought that the concept, that each issue represent a [...]

The most addictive comic around…

When I first got into comics I kinda had the basic outline of books I thought would be interesting. Batman, Daredevil, and Deadpool amongst others, though all in the DC/Marvel variety. I’m not really sure how it happened, but once again I refer back to my saying that it’s as though [...]

Hey, Joe: one of your writers bullied a Nexus editor into altering the content of a review he didn’t like. If you wanna apologize for THAT, we’re waiting…

Ben Affleck made me do it…

Now this may be the case for any period in time when someone decides to begin reading comics, but I believe that this is the perfect time to enter the fray if it’s something you’ve been considering. Personally, I feel that everything has rebooted just for me. Every character that [...]

I want to see Fabian Nicieza write Teen Titans. I want to see the book roll over creative teams, again, and hand the reigns of this title that has yet to get back to where it was when Geoff Johns left it, over to Fabian Nicieza. I want Fabian to work with Kon, Cassie, Bart, [...]

How can Batman compete with himself?

Not everyone will understand this, but sometimes I enjoy movies more than I enjoy books. It’s a rare occasion, but sometimes there’s a movie that’s done so perfectly, yet altered certain aspects of the book it was based off of in a way that change it entirely. That sounds odd, [...]

Blackest Night was the only book to come out this week. So I decided to do an extended review of the issue.

I quit reading comics my freshman year of high school, and then proceeded to not mention them again in public for several years. I wasn’t embarrassed, not at all, I love comics. I quit because I was fifteen and had parents going through a divorce and felt guilty asking for money and a ride every [...]

And Stan bless us…EVERY one!

“Rebirth Retcons: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Blame Johns”
A couple of years ago I made a topic on the Gamefaqs.com Comics & Graphic Novels board, and in it I went a little overboard in explaining how I felt the unnecessary retcons he was using were diluting the franchise and stripping away the [...]

Hi there.  I’m new to Comics Nexus.  My intent is to share my thoughts on my comics and comics-related reading on a weekly basis.  I have been a comics reader for about thirty years – I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t read comics – and my tastes are all over [...]

The big glitch in uber villains is that they’re made for an express purpose, generally a certain storyline, they play their role, do their part, and then if they live through it it’s incredibly unlikely that they’ll ever do anything of substantial value again anytime soon.
Cases in point?

Prometheus
Extant
Bane
Bastion

Now you have to keep in mind, these [...]

Iron Fists, Armed Monkeys, Multi-armed ping pong and the 800-Number of Fate RETURNS – all here in this, the 75th edition of I’M JUST SAYIN’. C’mon in and get with this!

Of course, the rest of this miniseries may make up for this lackluster kick-off, but if you ask me, this is exactly why you don’t mess around with Marvel continuity, and this is exactly why a story like SPIDER-MAN: CLONE SAGA – with no sign of a WHAT IF…? banner, mind you! – has all the appearances of a waste of time and paper for any and everyone involved. WHAT HAPPENED IS WHAT HAPPENED, and that must be respected. Because sometimes, even with the most flawed of storylines, there are some things that were executed the right way the first time around.

NEWSARAMA.com has been reporting on the upcoming SIEGE event quite a bit – how funny would it be to find out that everything since AVENGERS #500 has been nothing but a massive stall so that Bendis could learn how to write a superhero story?

These days one can log in any comic book discussion board and all they’d see is whining. Whining from comic book fans about each and every comic book. Granted, things are tough nowadays and the quality of our favorite entertainment medium can get very poor. But we need to stop complaining! Things could be abysmally worse. To prove my point, here are some examples of comics we wouldn’t want to see upon this world… or would we…?

Here’s a quick wrap of the panels that I attended at the 10th Annual Baltimore Comic-Con.
