It looks like they aren’t quite finished yet, but it feels like SECRET INVASION is the perfect embodiment for the sad excuse for storytelling and slipshod, forced characterization that Quesada, Bendis and the rest of their current Marvel inner circle love to pride themselves upon. With the apparent years of build-up, since NEW AVENGERS #1, all of those mischaracterizations? All of those continuity slip-ups? Part of the plan, all along! These guys like to tout their long-term plotting skill as a major selling point, and if this is their shining example, then I’m not impressed. I could plan a road trip to California, if I didn’t give a blazing monkey crap about traffic law.
Did you all have a good Thanksgiving? Directed to my American readers, of course, to the rest of you….did you have a good week? I know I did, stuffed my face, hung out with family, had one of my best friends come in town for the weekend. It was quite nice, and very needed. Almost [...]
A weekly review show reviewing comics and action figures. Join Tiger and Brick as they review what’s hot and what’s not. This week they talk to Bill Willingham of Fables and Steven T. Seagle, writer for American Virgin and It’s a Bird.
R.I.P., BND and S:SO - initials aplenty in this week’s edition of I’M JUST SAYIN’…Ooh - also, I’m performing this Friday night in the Lower East Side. C’mon out, won’t you? But first, c’mon in here and get your read on…
The column has returned! Kind of. In the past three months there’s been plenty of change in the world and this column isn’t immune from it. So jump on in and check out how much things have changed.
This week we’ve got Brainiacs, characters from Limbo and Amazos (oh my), plus the return of the “Temporary Mainstay!” C’mon, you know you’re curious and you know you’ve missed the column.
Here’s the thing about Mark Millar that bothers me to no end: when he writes anything that’s supposed to be part of a larger continuity, he doesn’t bother to do his homework…If this run of his were some kind of “Ultimate” Fantastic Four that I described several columns ago, that were completely out of continuity and stood on its own, I wouldn’t have a thing to say about it. But if you’re going to be working on this specific title? THE FANTASTIC FOUR? The one Stan Lee and Jack Kirby gave us? Well then, you damn well better BRING IT. And by “bring it,” I don’t mean “throw together whatever crap you think will look ‘badass.’” To wit:
Been working on a few things lately, and hopefully you’ll all be seeing them sometimes soon. I’ve had a few ideas for rambles and rants, and even a reader submitted one that I’m doing a little work on. It’s all well, fun, and good, but I did promise you guys a finale on my list [...]
Hey all and welcome to another Marvel Handbook. I‘ve been a bit busy of late but I‘ll be making up for it with a few articles coming up. Also we need still need more emails.
Neither Micheline nor anybody else could have ended Tony Stark’s story any better than this. What we have here, is a textbook example of examining where a character has been, and giving him a picture-perfect sendoff. Ever since he built the Iron Man armor, Tony Stark has been about control. He wrested control over his fate from Fate itself in that war camp, and has sought to keep that sense of control over all aspects of his life, and those things he saw as right. IRON MAN: THE END was about Tony finally realizing that, eventually, it’s alright to let go. Plus, it was nice to see Bethany Cabe again. Seemed like she was the only one who could keep up with ol’ Tony.
A good topic to talk about is hard to come up with, believe me, I know. This is the fourth different attempt I’ve made at writing a Standard this week, and I’m not even sure if this is going to be the final draft. I always get to thinking about what books are “must read”, [...]
