This was a very good week for new comics, especially with the return of a few titles I haven’t seen in a long time.
Best Comic of the Week:
Daytripper #4
by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá
My but I love this comic. I would have thought that the concept, that each issue represent a [...]

Last week-end I went to the Winter Toronto Comic-con, a much smaller affair than Fan Expo in the summer, but packed nonetheless.  I spoke briefly with Guy Davis, who is as cool a guy as he is an artist, and picked up a pretty mixed bag of stuff, most of which is reviewed below.

Best Comic of the Week:
Scalped #35
Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Danijel Zezelj
It might seem a little early to cast votes for the best comic of 2010, but I feel confident after reading this book in saying that the bar this year has just been raised incredibly high.
Aaron gives us a stand-alone story about an elderly [...]

Best Comic of the Week:
Mesmo Delivery
by Rafael Grampá
When this book was first published by Adhouse a couple of years ago, I coveted it a great deal, but never actually bought it. I think I was put off by the $12.50 price tag for such a slim book. When I saw that Dark Horse was reprinting [...]

Best Comic of the Week:
DMZ #50
Written by Brian Wood
Art by Rebekah Isaacs, Jim Lee, Fábio Moon, Ryan Kelly, Lee Bermejo, Riccardo Burchielli, Phillip Bond, John Paul Leon, Eduardo Risso, and Dave Gibbons
The last few years have been rough on Vertigo, sales wise, and so when one of their titles reaches the 50th issue milestone, it [...]

This was a very strong week, with a couple of books battling it out for the ‘best of the week’ title.  Were it not for Demo, it might have been a tie between Criminals and Scalped.
Best Comic of the Week:
Demo Vol. 2 #1
Written by Brian Wood
Art by Becky Cloonan
The news that Brian Wood and Becky [...]

It was the last week for back-issue sales at my comic store, which also means it’s the last week for a while (hopefully) where I’ll be buying too many comics.
Best Comic of the Week:
Unknown Soldier #16
Written by Joshua Dysart
Art by Alberto Ponticelli
One thing that has nagged at me since the beginning of this series is [...]

This ended up being another big week for me, as my store is now selling off recent DC overstock at $1 a book.  I’m buying way too many comics lately.
Best Book of the Week:
Joe the Barbarian #1
Written by Grant Morrison
Art by Sean Murphy
I’m not too sure how to respond to this first issue. I see [...]

This was a pretty good week for comics.  There wasn’t a lot published, but my store started selling off recent Marvel overstock at 10 for $10, so my pile ended up being pretty big.
Best Book of the Week:
Daytripper #2
by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá
This issue of Daytripper is very different from the previous. Where the [...]

Well, 201o is off to a good start, with a good showing of impressive Indie books, and some quality product from the Big Two.
Best Book of the Week:
Stumptown #2
Written by Greg Rucka
Art by Matthew Southworth
I’m really enjoying this title. On the surface, this is a pretty simple book – girl private eye who seems to [...]

While everyone else around the internet is compiling and debating ‘Best of’ lists, I wanted to take a few moments to look at some of the mysteries of 2009 – the books that never arrived!
To my knowledge, none of the following books were cancelled by Diamond Distributors – they just never showed up on the [...]

With no new comics this week (apparently Blackest Night #6 wasn’t shipped to my store), it’s time to use the opportunity of Boxing Day Week sales, and get caught up on some titles that I either won’t buy at full price anymore, have been thinking of picking up/sampling, that fill holes in my collection, or [...]

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.  This was another heavy week at the comic store, and below are my thoughts on the books I read.
Best Book of the Week:
Unknown Soldier #15
Written by Joshua Dysart
Art by Alberto Ponticelli
The first thing that hit me with the new issue of Unknown Soldier (okay, after the gorgeous Dave [...]

This was a huge week at the comic store, as it would seem publishers are trying to flood the shelves in advance of the Christmas skip week.  Here’s what I bought:
Best Book of the Week:
Underground #4
Written by Jeff Parker
Art by Steve Lieber
Parker’s Underground continues to be a very exciting and rewarding title. His story of [...]
