Super Hero Haikus: Astonishing X-Men #1-6 Gifted
By Jesse Lyons - June 17, 2009 | Email the author

[Editor's Note: The Nexus is proud to welcome another new feature to our regular weekly rotation: Jesse Lyons' Super Hero Haikus! SHH will run twice weekly, collecting material from Jesse's archive and introducing original content as we go. First a note from the man himself:]

Super Hero Haikus was created on a cross between a whim and a dare between some friends. One day while discussing Spider-Man 3, the point of how Sandman was originally defeated by a vacuum cleaner came up and the flash of insight was discovered when the phrase “A vacuum cleaner” had five syllables. From there, I started writing haikus, a traditional method of Japanese poetry following the pattern of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables, for fun about super heroes. Eventually enough were created that one of my friends told me to create a website for them and I did. The website currently covers a variety of comics from Marvel, ranging from original Stan Lee material to more modern day masterworks like Joss Whedon’s run on Astonishing X-Men.

As a avid comicbook reader, I’ve been following both DC and Marvel for years now though I’ve made the switch to trades so don’t expect too many haikus relating to what was released last Wednesday. I’m always looking for suggestions for series to read and plan on expanding the blog into more than just Marvel down the road.

Excelsior!

  3. [...] Next, it looks like the Nexus is blowing up big time - ‘Nolis (trying it out as a nickname. Let’s see if he likes it!) just gave us a heads-up that we now have a twitter account that you can access by clicking right here. With the sudden boost of legitimacy Twitter has garnered thanks to the chaos in Iran right now, I suppose I can’t call it “the haiku’s retarded American cousin” anymore, huh? Speaking of haikus… [...]
